Bolling v. Sharpe

SCOTUS · Decided Decided

Case Overview

Brown's companion case, decided the same day, holding that racial segregation in District of Columbia public schools violates the Due Process Clause of the Fifth Amendment. Because the Fourteenth Amendment does not apply to the federal government, the Court held equal protection principles bind it through Fifth Amendment due process, the doctrine known as reverse incorporation.
