E. Jean Carroll's second suit against Donald Trump, filed in November 2022 under New York's Adult Survivors Act, combined a battery claim over the mid-1990s assault with a defamation claim over statements Trump made in October 2022 denying her account. Before Judge Lewis A. Kaplan in the Southern District of New York, a jury in May 2023 found Trump liable for sexual abuse and defamation and awarded about $5 million, roughly $2 million in compensatory damages for the battery, $2.7 million in compensatory damages for defamation, and $280,000 in punitive damages. The Second Circuit affirmed on December 30, 2024 (No. 23-793), and the Supreme Court denied review on June 29, 2026. Carroll received full payment, about $5.6 million with interest, in July 2026. This case is concluded.
