Case Overview

Simon Soto, a Marine Corps veteran with a combat-related disability, was medically retired in 2006 with fewer than 20 years of service. He became eligible for Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC) in 2009 but did not apply until 2016, and the Navy invoked the Barring Act's six-year limitations period to cut off the earliest portion of his back payments. The question for the Supreme Court was whether the CRSC statute displaces that six-year limit.
