Case Overview

Trump sued CNN for defamation in the Southern District of Florida in October 2022. He lost, and lost again on appeal. Judge Raag Singhal dismissed the complaint and the case was terminated on July 28, 2023. Trump appealed, and the Eleventh Circuit affirmed the dismissal; its mandate issued on March 26, 2026. Of the defamation suits Trump has filed personally, this is the only one that has been tested by a federal appeals court, and it failed.
